Email Marketing - The Number One Secret To Getting Your Email Opened!!
Email Marketing can give you great results if you do it properly. Of course everyone’s take on getting it right is different. To be honest I had never put much thought into my Email Marketing until recently. Over the last few weeks, I have been shown what I am doing wrong!!
Oh well, as Robert F Kennedy once said “Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly”. So now I am putting my mistakes right!
And I know you are waiting for the number 1 secret, so here it is!
The subject heading is the obvious choice isn’t it? Apparently not! The reason someone opens your email is YOU! Your Brand! If you are building your social media or online presence properly, your name should start to ring bells to the people you are sending emails to. You see, if you have been seen all over social media, in pictures, videos, articles and comments, the person receiving your email will recognise your name and open that email because they already know you, they like and trust you.
One good tip is to copy your blog header at the top of your emails so people know who’s email they are reading. Another way to brand yourself would be with a signature from mylivesignature.com. Try to make your emails personal to you; add a little bit of yourself into them.
Don’t get too heavy in your email, or you will lose your readers. Make sure you have plenty of new paragraphs. Once you have written it, take another look. Would you read it? Because if it is boring, or it looks boring, the reader will click DELETE! And try to keep it reasonably brief.
I have had several emails recently where the writer has just used a short line of writing, making a small column down the left hand side of the page and I must admit these do seem easier to read! Try to use bold, italics and underline to make the important parts of your email stand out. People don’t read so much as ’scan’ their emails nowadays. And if the important bits don’t standout, they will be missed!
Recently I had a complaint from someone on my list complaining about me sending them information. I guess they were new online and didn’t realise that by putting in their details for one of my trainings they would also be placed on my list. My answer to this was to put a disclaimer at the TOP of my emails, saying that they were receiving my emails because they had opted-in on one of my sites, and if they did not wish to receive help in building their online business, they could opt-out easily at the bottom of the page!
I panicked a little when I sent this out the first time, but actually only got a couple of people opting-out and actually got more click-throughs than usual. Probably because I was making it clear what the emails were about, and injecting a little bit of my personality into it. I was actually saying, if you don’t want my emails, fine, no problem, goodbye!!
Remember you are sending emails to communicate with your list. If they do not feel you give value, they will never buy from you. You need to offer help, advice, tips, free training and anything you have which will be valuable to them. If you know what they want, and help them to get it, you will be of value to them.
Always think, once they know, like and trust you, they will be ready to do business with you!
