How To Follow My Footsteps Into Making Money From Home

12 May 2009 No Comment

The current recession has made it evident that even a “secure” job isn’t that secure at all. As for myself, I have never even had a really secure job, ever. And this in spite of having a Ph.D.

The reason is that in Academia you seldom get a secure position until you become a Professor; otherwise most jobs are temporary. I never reached as far as to those pinnacles of achievment. Once upon a time I got a fellowship and spent two years at Harvard (one of the top U.S. universities); but that was it for me.

Even back then I was actually fed up with Academia, and secretly dreamed of being in my own business. I remember thinking about going for a degree in something like Business Administration — but felt very bored by that thought.

The thing is: suppose you have spent a heck of a long time getting an advanced degree — then the idea of going back to school again is not appealing. The thing is during one period I even had a nightmare: I was back in High School again — and that awful dream kept coming back! A most unpleasant experience indeed. More like in the movie “Groundhog Day”, where the same day seems to repeat itself endlessly.

OK, I did at least manage to get out of Academia and get myself a job — in a small fledgling Biotech company. I got along fine with the bosses and the future looked rather bright. Unfortunately this came crashing down a year later. The company went bankrupt, and I no longer had a job.

Those bosses were no businessmen, they had zero experience running a company. They had spent money recklessly on fancy offices and such, oblivious to any warnings.

What to do now? Now I spent all my energy groping for a business opportunity — it needed to get me on track really quickly. For several reasons, I had no other options. Now I wanted a work from home business. I hated having to spend my time at some office, ruled by the whims of others.

Luckily, I had an Internet connection and I had been playing around with HTML coding. Plus I was well aware of the possibilities of selling things on the Web.

I happened to stumble on some ebook on the subject of making a good living as affiliate; ie. by marketing other people’s stuff. If I recall it correctly the ebook in question was by Rosalyn Gardner — I wouldn’t recommend it nowadays since I think it is now outdated. Nevertheless, it was useful back then.

Using that information I was soon able to make some decent money as affiliate for web hosting companies. At long last I could now work from home online — and set my own schedule. This is my idea of freedom! Now I have several web sites, visit for instance my blog, dBusinessOpportunity.com.

Summing up: in case you are one of the many people who are searcing for a business opportunity online, then I suggest you take a look at affiliate promotion. You can choose from an astronomical number of things to promote.
